Hamburg, a hockey stronghold

SUSAT has been involved in competitive hockey since 2001. Until 2003 SUSAT supported the German Hockey League (under the terms of a cooperation agreement) as a professional training partner for both the women's and men's teams and sponsor of the final rounds of the German Championships (field and rink).

SUSAT Beach Hockey Camps
And SUSAT has since 2006 been title sponsor of SUSAT Beach Hockey Camps, set up by the DHA (German Hockey Agency). Six beach hockey camps have taken place in the summer of 2009 on the North and Baltic Sea coast. 200 children and teenagers from all over Germany gathered for an eventful week with training units under the guidance of a professional training team and an attractive supporting program. The high point of the camps was the unique (for Germany) beach hockey tournament. Worth mentioning also is the Second German Beach Hockey Championchips for adults which took place at Timmendorfer Strand.

Six camps and the Third German Beach Hockey Championchips have already been planned for 2010, and are to take place between 10 July and 17 August. More information can be found at www.beach-hockey.de and www.beachhockeydm.de.

Professional training services
SUSAT also makes its professional training services available to Hamburg's women's and men's national league teams. The players are given access to free career guidance services and have the opportunity to complete internships at SUSAT as part of their professional or continuing education. Dr. Jost Wiechmann comments: "We see a parallel between the qualities that hockey demands of its players and our own success factors: team spirit, strategic thinking, and highly-developed technical skills. We want to be more than just a presence in our chosen business areas. We want to be the best."

Jersey sponsorship
As of 1 April 2008 SUSAT is official jersey sponsor of the Zehlendorfer Wespen 1911 e.V. First Men’s Hockey Team in Berlin. SUSAT employs around forty people at its North German branch, and this new project represents the company’s commitment to another stronghold of hockey in the region. SUSAT and the Wespen sports club are both involved in backing players in the German national hockey league. In 2007 the Wespen set up a careers support committee, made up of doctors, lawyers and executives from the real estate, media and insurance industries, to help club players in achieving their professional and academic objectives, and to arrange individual professional mentorships from amongst the club’s network.

When the outdoor season kicks off in spring 2008, SUSAT will be the main equipment sponsor for all hockey teams of the Hamburger Polo Club e.V. sports club in Hamburg's Klein Flottbek.

Why we are committed to hockey
In no other type of team sport - not even in soccer - have so many victories been celebrated or cups won as in German hockey, whether at the Olympics, World or European championships, or international tournaments. The sport receives little public attention, however - the German Hockey League counts no more than roughly 70,000 members. Hockey players however like to refer to the resulting cohesion among their ranks as that of a "hockey family." Hamburg, with its 9,000 members and its four women's and two men's national league teams, ranks second in participation after North Rhine-Westphalia. Hockey is also the most successful team sport in Hamburg, where Germany's first hockey clubs were established in 1901. 

For these reasons the SUSAT partners decided to lend their support to hockey. Many SUSAT employees regularly take part in hockey events, keep in touch with the players and actively provide career guidance. An exchange of views with younger colleagues who, not so long ago, were faced with many of the same questions as the current competitive sportsmen is a positive experience for the hockey players.
